Will the Croct GTM tag double-count against my existing GA4 setup?
Our VTEX store already pushes ecommerce events to GA4 through GTM. My data layer has the standard view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase pushes, and the GA4 tags read straight off those.
Before I add the Croct tag I want to be sure it will not duplicate anything or interfere with the GA4 tags reading the same data layer. Are the two safe to run together?

They are safe to run together and the Croct tag will not double-count against GA4. The Croct tag listens to the events already in the data layer and maps them to Croct events; it does not emit its own GA4 events, so your GA4 tags keep reading the same recommended events independently and nothing is duplicated.
It is worth separating two directions that are easy to conflate. This inbound tag brings store events into Croct. Sending Croct data the other way, into an analytics tool, is a separate outbound export and is not part of this tag, so adding the tag does not touch your GA4 pipeline.
On performance, Croct can track several events within 2 to 3 milliseconds, so there is no measurable main-thread conflict with your existing tags. The tag behaviour is described in the Google Tag Manager integration, and the outbound analytics direction is documented separately under the integrations overview.
We run both side by side on our store and have for months. GA4 tags read the data layer, the Croct tag reads the same data layer, and the two never touch each other. No duplicate purchase events in GA4, no change to our numbers after adding it. Same non-conflict people describe with the tag-and-SDK double tracking question.
