Firmographic personalization does not fire on the landing page, only later, why?

Set up industry messaging on the homepage last week. Noticed something odd and want to know if I broke it.

First page a visitor lands on shows the default hero. Then they click through to any second page and the personalized industry version shows up fine. Reproducible every time.

So personalization clearly works but not on the landing view. Did I misconfigure something or is this how firmographic resolution behaves

This is expected behavior, not a misconfiguration. Firmographic resolution takes a moment: the provider has to resolve the visitor to a company before those attributes are available for audience evaluation. Because of that, firmographic experiences from the B2B firmographic family will typically activate on subsequent page views during the session.

On that first landing view, the audience has nothing to match yet, so the default slot content serves as the fallback. That is why you see the generic hero first and the tailored one after the click-through. Once the firmographic data resolves, Croct picks the right content and resolves it server-side, so the personalized views arrive without any client flicker.

The takeaway for setup is to treat the default content as a first-class experience rather than a placeholder, since it is what your very first touch shows. The audiences overview explains how the matching runs per interaction.

We see the exact same pattern on our setup, so nothing is broken. The way we internalized it was to design the first view to stand on its own and treat the firmographic version as an upgrade that kicks in as the visitor browses. Once we stopped thinking of the default as a temporary placeholder the whole thing felt intentional. There is a longer thread on this in why the firmographic experience shows on the second page view.
