Show different content on weekends only, possible with an audience?

Asked by Renee Duval on

We run a weekend promotion and right now I publish the banner every Friday evening and unpublish it Monday morning by hand. Not ideal, I forgot twice last month. Is there a way to build an audience that only matches on Saturdays and Sundays so the personalisation handles the switching automatically? Feels like it should be simple but I could not find a weekend condition anywhere.

There is no weekend keyword, but weekday conditions compose with or:

today's weekday is "saturday" or today's weekday is "sunday"

Attach that audience to an experience with the promo banner and it will match only on those days, no manual publishing. The today context variable sits alongside now, yesterday, and tomorrow, plus the usual user, session, device, and page contexts, so you can layer more rules on top if the promo is also device- or location-specific.

One distinction worth making: weekday audiences are for recurring patterns like yours. If instead the promo has a fixed start and end date (say a two-week sale), use experience scheduling, which activates and deactivates the experience on the dates you set. Same end result, but scheduling is the cleaner fit for one-off date-bounded campaigns.

Set it up this morning and the banner switched off exactly as expected. No more Monday morning panic, thanks!
