Combine campaign source with in-session engagement in one audience?

Asked by Dana Kirkpatrick on

Spending 40k a month on Google Ads. Not every click deserves the strong offer. I want it shown only to paid visitors who actually engage. Not the ones who bounce in two seconds.

Can campaign conditions and session conditions live in the same audience? Or are they separate systems. I want something like: came from google, AND viewed a few pages this visit

Same system, and they compose freely with and/or:

campaign's source is "google" and session's stats' pageviews > 3

That is your audience: engaged paid traffic, nothing else needed.

Two details that make this work well in practice. First, the campaign attributes (name, source, medium, content, term) are populated automatically from your UTM parameters via the campaignDetected auto event, so as long as your ads carry UTMs you have nothing to wire up.

Second, audiences are evaluated in real time on every interaction. A visitor who lands from your ad is outside this audience on page one, then enters it the moment their fourth pageview happens, mid-session. So the strong offer appears exactly when the engagement threshold is crossed, not on their next visit. Tune the pageview number to whatever "engaged" means for your funnel.
