Moving our experimentation off Optimizely, does Clarity now show what each visitor experienced?

Asked by Gustavo Lima on

we are winding down Optimizely and standing up Croct in its place. Clarity is already part of our qualitative toolkit and the team relies on it.

What I want to confirm before we commit: once we connect Clarity, do the replays and heatmaps actually reflect the audience, experience and variant each visitor got, or is it still a black box like before

Yes, that is exactly what happens once you connect it. The integration enriches your Clarity replays and heatmaps with the audience, experience, experiment, and variant each visitor received, so it stops being a black box. You open Clarity, filter to a variant, and watch only those sessions.

We made the same move off Optimizely last year. after leaving Optimizely, being able to watch replays filtered to the exact variant that won was the moment it clicked for our team, because for the first time the qualitative and quantitative sides actually agreed on who saw what.

It is an outbound, one-time no-code connection, nothing per-session to wire up. Pair it with Croct's unsampled Bayesian results for the numbers and you have both halves.

One detail that mattered for us specifically coming off a client-side tool: content resolves server-side, so the replays show the personalized page with no flicker. With Optimizely we were used to seeing the default flash before the variant swapped in on the recording, which made the replays confusing. Here the recording just shows the right variant from the first frame.

The overall no-extra-code model is the same as the other analytics tools, the thread on getting Croct data into the analytics side without extra code covers it.
