Do purchase and sign-up events from GTM count as conversions for an experiment?
I push purchase and sign-up events into the data layer and want to use one of them as the conversion goal of an experiment I am setting up.
Does the Croct tag treat those any differently from ordinary events, or do I have to mark them as conversions somewhere myself first? Trying to figure out where the goal actually comes from. Thanks all.

They are treated differently, in your favor. The conversion-indicating recommended events (purchase, sign-up, generated lead) are tracked as conversions automatically when the tag sees them, no manual marking needed.
What that means concretely: when one of those fires, Croct records a Goal Completed alongside the regular event. So the goal exists as soon as the event flows through the tag, and you point the experiment's primary goal at it.
One catch that trips people up: the goal event has to have been tracked at least once already before it shows up in the experiment's goal dropdown. The dropdown lists goals Croct has actually seen, not every possible event.
So push a purchase through the data layer, confirm it arrived, then open the experiment config. Set your primary goal, traffic allocation, and the 2 to 5 variants there. If purchase is missing from the dropdown it almost always means no purchase event has landed yet.
That was it. It showed up in the dropdown once a bit of real traffic flowed and a purchase actually fired. Appreciate it.
