How does the Visual Editor behave once a block is personalized?

Asked by Jess Hartley on

The editors at my client live in the Visual Editor all day, and before I roll personalization out to more blocks I need to know it won't break their preview. Once a block has variants attached through the Croct field, what do editors actually see in the Visual Editor iframe? The default? A random variant? And if a stakeholder wants to check a specific variant before it goes live, how do they do that

The Visual Editor keeps working exactly as before. Your Storyblok content stays as the default for the slot, so editors continue to see and edit the regular Storyblok block in the Visual Editor. Variants never replace it there.

To preview a specific variant, use Croct preview links:

  1. Open the experience or experiment in the editor and generate a preview link for the variant you want to check.
  2. Share the link with stakeholders. Links are valid for 24 hours, shareable, and can be regenerated at any time.
  3. When the page opens, a widget in the bottom-right corner shows which experience, experiment, audience, variant, and locale are being previewed.

Two requirements for preview links to work: the domain must be registered in your trusted origins, and the slot version in your code must match the previewed content. The Croct documentation covers preview setup in detail.
