Can an editor tweak a variant headline without waiting on a deploy?

mid-campaign and I want to fix a headline in one variant of a running experience. it is a typo basically, but I am worried this counts as a content change that needs a code change and a deploy window, which for us means end of week at the earliest.

can editors adjust variant copy directly, or does every variant edit go back through engineering?
