# found "Optimize" in the Storyblok app directory, what does it add over Storyblok itself?

I manage content marketing and am not a developer. I was browsing the
Storyblok app directory and came across an app called Optimize. The
description mentions personalization and A/B testing but I am struggling to
picture what it actually adds that Storyblok does not already do, we
already publish different content whenever we want.

Can someone explain in plain language what this app is for? And the
question I always have to ask, can my team use it ourselves or does every
change need a developer

The difference is between everyone seeing the same content and different
visitors seeing different content at the same time. Storyblok lets you
change what is published, but every visitor still gets the same page. The
Optimize app adds two things on top of your existing blocks:

1. Personalization: show a different version of a block to a specific
group, say returning visitors or people from a particular campaign,
while everyone else sees the normal version.
2. A/B testing: show two or more versions to random halves of your
traffic and measure which one performs better, instead of guessing.

It does not replace Storyblok or move your content anywhere. Your blocks
stay exactly where they are and remain what most visitors see by default.

On the developer question: there is a one-time technical setup where a
developer links the blocks you want to vary to Croct (the company behind
the app). After that, your team creates and publishes the variations and
tests from inside Storyblok's own interface, no developer in the loop per
change. For planning purposes: the app itself works with all Storyblok
plans, and it pairs with a Croct account on their Scale plan, so loop in
whoever owns your tooling budget when you scope the rollout.
