# How do I build an audience of visitors who viewed more than a few pages?

Asked by content_jen on 2026-08-27. Tags: cql, audiences, sessions.

I want a newsletter prompt that only shows once someone is clearly into the
content, not on the very first page they land on. Basically wait until they
have poked around a bit in the current visit.

how do I threshold on the number of pages someone has viewed this session?

Session stats has a pageviews counter, so:

```cql
session's stats' pageviews > 3
```

That holds off the prompt until they are a few pages deep in the visit. Since
it is visit-scoped it resets each new session rather than accumulating across
visits, which is usually what you want for an in-the-moment nudge like a
newsletter prompt.

Pageviews alone can be noisy (someone bouncing through a nav counts too), so
I pair it with time on site for a stronger engagement signal:

```cql
session's stats' pageviews > 3 and session's duration > 2 minutes
```

session also exposes duration, landingPage and referrer, so you have a few
knobs. The [session duration plus orders](/answers/cql-session-duration-and-orders)
thread has another combination if you want ideas. It all evaluates in real
time as the audience on the slot.

Adding duration was the right call, the prompt feels a lot less pushy now.
